Apparently it’s not only Uzalo fans that are missing Baby Cele’s character as Gabisile on Uzalo. The actress herself misses her experience as Gabisile on the soapie.

Baby Cele took to social media to mourn the end of her journey with Uzalo.

“It breaks my heart to be honest with you because I have never played such a character before.” What a great journey it has been with #uzalo_sabc1. I enjoyed every moment of this production.” It has been my honour to share the screen and wear those shoes of every character we play together. We really make the script come to life, we’ll work again”.

The actress told Sowetan Live that the journey with Gabisile had become a spiritual one for her.

I’m glad that I trusted the process and journey. I had to undergo a spiritual journey of things that I have seen in visions but it wasn’t very clear to me. So as I found myself in that place I thought ‘oh my gosh, I have been seeing this for so many years’. So I did all those things my ancestors needed from me. I don’t think I’d be in the place that I am spiritually if I had not taken that offer.

Taking on Gabisile meant moving to Durban and that brought a lot of changes in her family life.

Baby Cele reminisces on leaving Uzalo

At first I was reluctant, but deep down I knew that it’s what I wanted to do. I have been in this industry for 38 years and I have never worked in Durban. When I got the call I thought ‘oh sh*t, I just got married’. I signed the contract before telling my husband. He’s not fussy but I didn’t want to leave room for when I look at his face, I change my mind. After I told him he didn’t take it well for a few minutes, but he was OK with it. Long- distance relationships are never easy.

Baby Cele’s role as Gabisile was written off when she was killed by her husband.

Baby Cele will be joining a new series which is set to replace etv’s Rhythm City.  Co-starring in the show is Baby Cele and veteran actor Isidingo’s Lindani Nkosi. “We introduce Mr and Mrs Nkosi; whom you will watch in an upcoming new show; on etv.” The actress highlights that this role will be very different from her role as Gabisile.
