Reporting to the Director (Marketing & Business Development)
will be responsible for marketing and leading all business related activities of the Railways, with the objective of growing and maintaining sustainable business (revenue and tonnages). through developing sound relationships with customers, constantly evolving the service offering, and aligning all opportunities with the capabilities of the organization; at a profit.
Duties And Responsibilities
1.Assisting in the development of the Marketing policies, programs and strategies and recommending these to Executive Management.
2.Heading the development and implementation of annual marketing plans by determining and forecasting revenue and traffic volumes on offer by customer and commodity and crafting appropriate strategies to achieve desired targets.
3.Designing and recommending for approval the commercial policy and procedures of the organisation (e.g. on rates, demurrage and claims) and providing guidance to staff on implementation, to ensure adherence to laid down Commercial/Accounting procedures and revenue protection.
4.Maintaining monthly and annual budgets by customer and commodity as input to developing comprehensive corporate and business plans.
5.Delivering on business financial targets In terms of revenue and profitability contribution for the freight business portfolio, whilst maintaining competitiveness in the constantly changing business environment.
6.Promoting long-lasting customer relationships and sustaining rapport with key accounts by understanding their needs, partnering with them in finding logistical solutions and developing appropriate service measurement mechanisms, directly and through Regional Marketing Managers.
7.Identifying and exploiting new business opportunities locally, regionally, and internationally, to increase volumes, market share and growth. In the process, maintaining focus on high revenue generating streams through market/customer research and analysis of Industry and market trends.
8.Promoting new business development through close and constant follow-ups on potential leads on the market.
9.Working collaboratively with other departments and sections to evolve the service offering
and ensure the organization addresses the ever-changing needs of customers and
maximizes business performance and exploitation of market opportunities.
Qualifications And Experience
a)Have a recognised degree in Marketing/Economics or other related field.
b)Have extensive experience in the field of marketing in a major organisation at a
high level, with a sound commercial background, a strong flair for numbers and demonstrable experience in market research, pricing and contract terms.
c)Have a broad understanding of current marketing trends their impact on business strategies and implications in creating and sustaining competitive advantage.
d)Have the ability to engage at a high level, take initiative and work with a team of dedicated professionals to develop new business and sustain close relationships with key clients for the achievement of corporate objectives.
NB:Possession of a Masters degree in Marketing/Business Administration/Leadership will be an added advantage.
