Field Data Officer: Zvitambo

Zvitambo is a multidisciplinary public health research institute with the mission of improving maternal and child health in Zimbabwe, and to apply its findings to improve health globally. Zvitambo conducts research and provides technical support and education to reduce the burden of malnutrition and infectious diseases. Zvitambo is looking for energized and committed team to help lead and support a clinical trial in Harare, Therapeutic Approaches to Malnutrition Enteropathy (TAME). TAME is looking to improve the outcomes of severely malnourished children with medical complications who require hospitalization.
The TAME Field Data Officer will ensure efficient and accurate data collection across the study sites. (S)he will work with the Data Manager to issue trial identifiers to participants and allocate the randomized trial arm. (S)he will work in collaboration with the TAME Trial Manager to ensure timely scheduling of study visits to study participants, to track completion of study visits and to monitor the quality of the incoming data. (S)he will work in collaboration with the Laboratory Technician to ensure the proper labelling and tracking of bio-specimens collected by the study nurses. (S)he will work closely with the Trial Manager to ensure correct interpretation of the study protocols. (S)he will oversee the accuracy and completeness of all field data collected and perform first level data cleaning, checking for errors and initiative suitable corrective action. This position is based full time in Harare.
A two-year Diploma in Computing, Statistics or related field; A minimum of 2 years relevant experience in capturing and managing data; Good data capturing skills with speed and accuracy; Working knowledge of basic computer packages (e.g.Word, Excel, PowerPoint); A working knowledge of relational databases (Access, dBase, SQL Server); Ability to work independently but within a team framework; Is comfortable liaising with people of varying expertise and seniority; Has excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions independently; Can work well under pressure and can prioritize work; Is able to quickly understand complex issues
Is willing to continuously update analytical skills and knowledge; A current certificate in Good Clinical Practice and Ethics is required by the Medical Research Council of Zimbabwe.
