Geographic Information Systems (Gis) Technician

Duties And Responsibilities
• Monitor and troubleshoot the GIS technology environment including all desktop GIS and GIS database servers within the overall network infrastructure
• Maintain geospatial datasets to ensure GIS databases and GIS web applications are up to date and revise processes and procedures as necessary
• Rectify spatial data or application issues and enhancements
• Conduct programmatic and manual analysis, modeling and create reports and thematic maps to support decision making
• Coordinate with GIS end users to gather application requirements, analyze current state, identify gaps and implement custom solutions; increasing productivity and usability
• Design interactive applications to present GIS data and tools on the corporate website
• Investigate and resolve GIS software and hardware problems in cooperation with Information Technology staff
• Present status reports and demonstrations on GIS projects
• Investigate and assess external products and services that will provide cost effective solutions in the delivery of spatial data products and services
• Educate end users on programs and software upgrades
• Occasional travel to various work locations is required to fulfil the job duties of the position
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications And Experience
• Degree in Geographical Information Science, Computer Sciences, Software Engineering or a related field.
• At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a municipal environment
• Solid working knowledge of spatial data models and relational database design
• Demonstrated technical and practical implementation and administration using ESRI and Latitude Geographic Enterprise platforms (Desktop, Server, Online/Portal)
• Highly developed IT presentation and report writing skills.
