State Registered General Nurse
Receives and explains procedures and treatment to patients to gain co-operation, understanding and alleviate apprehension
Administers prescribed medicines and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques
Entering patient details into electronic Patient Management System, charging drugs and sundries accordingly
Ø ordering drugs and sundries and maintaining adequate levels
Ø checking machines and gadgets regularly and ensuring they are in good working order so as not to compromise service delivery and attending to maintenance issues immediately
Ø Phlebotomy, entering patients details in proper registers and follow up on results
Ø observes patients, records significant conditions and reactions and notify superior or casualty officer of patient`s condition and reaction to drug, treatments and significant incidents
Ø carry-out doctor’s orders timeously
Ø prepares discharges and transfers for admitted patients
Ø trains nurse aide attaches in the clinic and junior nursing staff
Ø preparing timetable for doctors, nurses and nurse aides-
Ø identify areas of non-compliance with clinical, hospital and medical healthcare service and recommend improvements
Ø monitor safety standards in accordance with machine and occupational safety act
Ø ensure compliance with the medication, administration and storage facilities
Ø ensure BMC is providing safe, cost-effective quality patient care in line with clinical governance strategy and evidence-based practice
Ø actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals
Ø active involvement in own professional development to maintain satisfactory level of skill and knowledge
Ø keep up to date with BMC’s evolving policies and procedures
Ø work effectively and cooperatively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial to all parties
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in the following areas is preferred:
Critical thinking to intervene with appropriate intervention for urgent/emergent care. Care for the acute and critically ill patients.
Identifying and managing life sustaining physiological functions in unstable patients
Head to toe assessments- knowledge of normal vs abnormal findings and reporting of findings to Sister In Charge if warranted
Education and Experience Required
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a diploma/degree in nursing
Minimum of three years hospital and casualty experience
Current and valid practicing certificate
At least three traceable references
