Title: WASH Officer

Report To: Project Coordinator

Location: Chipinge(Tongogara Refugee Camp)

Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to ensure timely and quality implementation of the WASH activities under the UNHCR program at Tongogara Refugee Camp.

Major Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Provide technical assistance to the formulation, planning, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of water supply and sanitation development activities.

Contribute to designs including drawings, BOQs for WASH infrastructure for water system and latrines, building on existing designs, implementation of designed projects and liaising with technical counterparts to ensure compliance with technical standards

To ensure that Hydrological survey / audit and sanitation survey is conducted and BOQs drafted for the purpose of material procurement for water system and latrines.

To effectively conduct mobilization meetings in the project area.

To conduct Village Based Consultative Inventories for WASH infrastructure and or facilities .

Coordinate with stakeholders and supervise the delivery of contract services by private contractors for the construction of water supply and sanitation facilities.

Contribute to the design and development of appropriate IEC and training materials for O & M education.

Implement promotion and training program for Community Based O & M of water sources and sanitation facilities.

To provide technical support to communities to ensure that water supply services are safely and sustainable managed.

Participate in project appraisals, reviews and evaluation.

Carry out topographical surveys and produce topographical maps and layouts for piped water schemes.

To supervise construction of piped water schemes, drilling of new boreholes, capacity testing, water quality analysis and installation of pumps and other construction works at the site.

To supervise rehabilitation of water points and ensure that other construction works are done as per need at identified water points.

To supervise construction of household latrines in the camp.

Plan and supervise implementation of hygiene promotion activities in the camp.

Contribute to the timely and accurate preparation of project reports.

To attend and participate in weekly chapel and daily devotional meetings.

Qualifications and Skills:

Degree in Water/Irrigation/Civil Engineering, Hydrogeology, Water and Sanitation, or any other relevant discipline.

Postgraduate WASH related qualification is an advantage

Verifiable experience with the construction of piped water schemes, boreholes, and other types of rural water supply systems.

Verifiable experience coordinating and supervising contract services by private contractors for the construction of rural water supply systems.

At least five years of experience in implementing rural water supply and sanitation projects.

Working knowledge of AutoCAD a distinct advantage

Ability to carry out strip surveys is an added advantage

Computer literacy is an added advantage.

A clean class (4) driver’s licence is essential.
